Alvinston beats Lakeshore 4-2 after comeback scare

The Lakeshore Canadiens tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Alvinston Flyers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Alvinston made the score 4-0 on a goal by Chad Rainsberry at 9:33 in the third period, and Lakeshore got as close as 4-2 when Liam MacDougall scored 16:32 into the third period.

The Flyers kept the Canadiens' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Jeffries made 27 saves on 31 shots. Alvinston's power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having 11 power play opportunities.

Alvinston additionally got points from Joe Archer, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Karsten Berg, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Brady Swan, who had two and Hunter Bryce, Zach VanEyk, and Kirklin Dorman, who contributed one each.

Lakeshore stifled the Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadiens' offense operated below their season average. Lakeshore puts an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. The Canadiens' offense rang up 39 shots on Alvinston's net. Lakeshore was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 36 penalty minutes.

Nick Tavolieri also scored for Lakeshore. Other players who recorded assists for Lakeshore were Zack Bedard, Nick Goran, and Brenden Crundwell, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers' Brett Avery stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Alvinston incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Canadiens registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
