Liberty's big game bests Wallaceburg in 6-3 Dresden win

Behind a great game by Dillon Liberty, who had one goal and two assists, the Dresden Kings defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers, 6-3.

Liberty scored 18:50 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dresden. Kevin Ritzer assisted on the tally. Liberty dished an assist on Macks Holmes's goal that made the score 5-2 Dresden at 16:10 into the second period. He added another helper on Ritzer's goal that made the score 6-3 Dresden at 13:57 into the third period.

Dresden forced Wallaceburg goalie Joel Sowinski to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. The Kings bested their season scoring average. Dresden has scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Dresden additionally got points from Ritzer, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, David Vergeer, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Holmes, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Dresden included Derrick VanEvery and Derek Daly, who each put in one. More assists for Dresden came via Graham Smyth, Wade Esselment, Taylor Sisson, Ross Krieger, and Steven Funk, who contributed one each.

The Lakers kept the Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Tricker made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Wallaceburg was helped by Brendan Ritchie, who had one goal. Ritchie scored on the power play 14:50 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Dresden. A cross checking penalty on Justin Delgado had put the Lakers on the power play. Matt Clark provided the assist. Wallaceburg also had goals scored by Jackson Gray and Evan Weidenbach, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Jordan Eagan, who had two and Jeff Brown, Cory Lucier, and Alex Ritchie, who each chipped in one.

Dresden incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Joel Sowinski made 39 saves for Wallaceburg on 45 shots. The Lakers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
