Alvinston holds on for 3-1 win against MooretownBrooke Alvinston Inwood CC Fri, Nov 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mooretown Flags tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Alvinston Flyers held on for a 3-1 victory. A goal by Karsten Berg put Alvinston up 3-0 in the second period, but Mooretown pulled to within two on Frankie White's tally 3:48 into the third period. The Flyers were led by goalie Brett Avery, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Avery managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.86 prior to the game. Alvinston's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 10 Mooretown power plays. The Flags were unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Alvinston eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. The Flyers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Alvinston was helped by Chad Rainsberry, who registered one goal. Rainsberry scored on the power play 16:04 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Alvinston. The Flyers earned a power play opportunity when Ryan Lyle was put in the box for high sticking. Zach VanEyk picked up the assist. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Eric Marsh and Carter Campbell, who each chipped in one. More assists for Mooretown came via David Addley and Dan Lumley, who contributed one each. Alvinston registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Mooretown's Brandon Johnson stopped 47 shots out of the 50 that he faced. The Flags incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
