Turner leads Essex over Wheatley, 10-0

Tyler Turner had two goals and two assists to lead the Essex 73s to a 10-0 victory over the Wheatley Sharks.

Turner found the back of the net 2:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex and again while 19:57 into the second to make the score 5-0 Essex.

Essex pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes.

The 73s stifled Wheatley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Essex forced the Sharks goalie Adam Leboeuf to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The 73s bested their season scoring average. Essex averages 5.1 goals per game.

Essex additionally got points from Jordan Ryan, who also racked up two goals and one assist, Eric Shaw, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Matthew Hebert, who also had one goal and two assists. Essex also had goals scored by Tyler Scott, who had two and Dan Mainella and Michael Vieira, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Daniel McIntyre, who had three, William Stadder and Matt Zelko, who contributed one each, and Nick Mainella and Daniel Slipchuk, who each chipped in two.

Wheatley did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Sharks average 3.2 goals per game.

Noah Hedrick made 20 saves for the 73s on 20 shots. Essex registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Leboeuf recorded 34 saves for Wheatley. The Sharks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
