Florence's big game bests Blenheim in 6-2 Wheatley win

Scott Florence had one goal and two assists to lead the Wheatley Sharks to a 6-2 victory over the Blenheim Blades.

Florence got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 5:58 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wheatley. A tripping penalty on Ben Pataki had put Wheatley on the power play. Frankie Ciacelli provided the assist. Florence dished an assist on Austin Thompson's goal that made the score 4-1 Wheatley at 15:43 into the second period. He added another helper on Thompson's goal that made the score 5-2 Wheatley at 12:30 into the third period.

The Sharks forced Blenheim goalie Klinton Kenney to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Wheatley surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Sharks average 3.5 goals per game. Wheatley took advantage of the Blades' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities.

Wheatley also got points from Ciacelli, who also had one goal and one assist. Michael Travis also scored for Wheatley. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Jimmy Ciacelli, who had three and Mike Reid, Chris Warkentin, Lucas Raffoul, Antonio Ciampa, and Brian Johnson, who contributed one each.

Blenheim was helped by Nolan VandenBoorn, who registered one goal. VandenBoorn scored 4:25 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wheatley. Blair Derynck assisted on the tally. Blenheim also got a goal from Jordan Durston as well. More assists for Blenheim came via Kellen Kaniecki, who had one and Justin Baker, who had two.

Conner MacKinnon rejected 24 shots on goal for the Sharks. Wheatley incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Klinton Kenney made 35 saves for the Blades on 41 shots. Blenheim incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
