The Wallaceburg Lakers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Amherstburg Admirals on the way to a 5-3 win. A goal by Lucais Meyskens put Wallaceburg up 5-2 in the third period, but Amherstburg pulled to within two on Jordan Luciw's tally 18:22 into the third period. The Admirals' power play was ineffective against the Lakers' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Wallaceburg forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Lakers surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Wallaceburg found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Lakers have scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Wallaceburg capitalized on Amherstburg's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. The Lakers were helped by Brendan Ritchie, who racked up one goal. Ritchie scored 1:50 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Wallaceburg. Jordan Eagan assisted on the tally. Wallaceburg also got points from Meyskens, who also had one goal and one assist and Matt Clark, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Wallaceburg included Jackson Gray and Trevor Waller, who each put in one. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Jeff Brown, Connor Johnston, Josh Berkvens, and Evan Weidenbach, who each chipped in one. The Admirals' offense rang up 32 shots on Wallaceburg's net. Amherstburg was helped by Luke Gangnon, who grabbed one goal. Gangnon scored on the power play 15:56 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wallaceburg. The Admirals had gotten the advantage when the Lakers' Mike Kindrachuk was sent off for checking from behind. Mark Sobocan provided the assist. Kasey Basile also scored for Amherstburg. More assists for Amherstburg came via Cody Leeming, Marshal Laing, Mark Gangnon, and Brett Beattie, who contributed one each. Joel Sowinski made 29 saves for Wallaceburg on 32 shots. For the Lakers, Frankie White and Kindrachuk were ejected from the contest. Amherstburg's starting goalie, Daniel Tonietto, made 18 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Arren Romeril, who stopped zero shots. The Admirals ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Amherstburg, Ryan Alexander was ejected from the game. |
