Brooks nets hat trick, leads Amherstburg to 5-3 win over Blenheim

James Brooks lifted the Amherstburg Admirals to a 5-3 victory with a hat trick against the Blenheim Blades.

Brooks' first goal came 8:54 into the third period. He then added goals at 12:11 into the third and at 14:37 into the third.

Amherstburg's penalty kill excelled, as the Admirals gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Amherstburg was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 73 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 31.0 minutes per game the Admirals had been spending in the box.

Amherstburg additionally got points from Mark Gangnon, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Cole Martyniuk and Conor Rennie, who each chipped in one and Cody Leeming and Jordan Luciw, who contributed two each.

Blenheim forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 67 minutes in penalty time. The Blades surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Amherstburg was unable to stop Blenheim from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blades eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Blenheim was led by Tyler Boughner, who finished with two goals. Boughner scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:23 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Amherstburg. The Blades had gotten the advantage when the Admirals' Gangnon was sent off for tripping. Dylan Muzzatti provided the assist. Boughner's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Blenheim with 19:04 left in the third period. Teddy McGeen picked up the assist. Kellen Kaniecki also scored for Blenheim. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Ben Pataki, Bryce Broad, Justin Baker, and Corbin Hagerman, who each chipped in one.

Amherstburg's Arren Romeril stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Admirals registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Steven Spada and Ryan Alexander were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Klinton Kenney rejected 23 shots on goal for Blenheim. For the Blades, Bryan Boersma and Alex Ritchie were ejected from the contest.
