Mooretown falls to Blenheim after surprising comeback

The Blenheim Blades rallied from two goals down to secure a 6-5 win over the Mooretown Flags.

Blenheim let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Blades took a 1-0 advantage on a power play goal by Corbin Hagerman at 5:36 in the first period. Blenheim went down 5-3 after Mooretown's Brett Thompson put the puck home on the power play at 3:07 in the third period. After tying things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Zack Horvath at 11:52 in the third, the Blades got the game-winner from Horvath at 19:55 in the third period.

Horvath and Teddy McGeen provided the spark for Blenheim, combining for four goals and four assists. Horvath grabbed two goals and two assists and McGeen also notched two goals and two assists.

The Blades forced the Flags goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Blenheim outdid its season average for goals scored. The Blades average 3.6 goals per game. Blenheim's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. The Blades average 2.5 goals allowed per game. Blenheim was effective with a man advantage, and put in four goals while on the power play.

Blenheim additionally got points from McGeen, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Kellen Kaniecki also scored for Blenheim. More assists for Blenheim came via Lucas Hickey, Bryce Broad, Justin Baker, and Tyler Boughner, who each chipped in one and Bryan Boersma and Dylan Smith, who contributed two each.

Mooretown also got points from Ryan Lyle, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Mooretown also got a goal from Dallas Harper as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Sam Jasmin, who had four and Justin Vanbuskirk, Matt Brandon, Justin Melo, and Alec Segers, who each chipped in one.

Eric Stewardson made 13 saves before being replaced by Klinton Kenney, who took the win and made six saves. The Blades incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Johnson rejected 40 shots on goal for Mooretown. The Flags totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For Mooretown, Joe Stock was ejected from the game.
