Dresden uses shootout to best Wheatley, 5-4 (2-1 SO)GLJHL Head Office Fri, Oct 03, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dresden Kings defeated the Wheatley Sharks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams. Wheatley's shootout goal was scored by Scott Florence. Dresden's other shootout goal was scored by Derek Daly.The Kings overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Dresden was down 4-2 after a power play goal by the Sharks' Brendon Anger at 14:19 in the second period. The Kings tied things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Daly at 10:36 in the third period. Wheatley's eight penalties came back to haunt it, as the Sharks let up four goals while on the penalty kill. Wheatley was unable to stop Dresden from sending pucks towards the net, and the Kings eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Dresden also got points from Taylor Sisson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ross Krieger, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jim McKinlay also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via John Montgomery, who had three and Dillon Liberty and Steven Funk, who each chipped in one. The Sharks' offense rang up 33 shots on Dresden's net. Wheatley was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 36 penalty minutes. Wheatley also had goals scored by Shawn Hope and Jimmy Ciacelli, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Florence, who had two and Mike Reid, Austin Thompson, Dylan Enns, Antonio Ciampa, and Michael Travis, who contributed one each. Steven Taylor made 29 saves for the Kings on 33 shots. Dresden incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Conner MacKinnon recorded 32 saves for the Sharks. Wheatley registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
