Blenheim stifles Wallaceburg's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Blenheim Blades, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Wallaceburg Lakers and clinched a 5-3 victory.

Blenheim led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Blades' Teddy McGeen scored at 16:08 in the second period to put Blenheim up 4-1.

Zack Horvath had two goals and one assist to lead the Blades. Horvath scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Blenheim. Blenheim had gotten the advantage when Wallaceburg's Michael Pearce was sent off for checking from behind. Bryan Boersma picked up the assist. Horvath's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Blenheim with 6:00 left in the third period. The Blades had gained a power play chance when Brendan Ritchie was whistled for slashing. Dylan Muzzatti assisted on the tally.

The Lakers were unable to stop Blenheim from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blades eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Blenheim found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Blenheim additionally got points from Austin Bentley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Blenheim also got a goal from Alex Ritchie as well. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Ben Pataki, who had two.

Wallaceburg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wallaceburg also got points from Jeff Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Bronson Bea also scored for Wallaceburg. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Lucais Meyskens and Mike Kindrachuk, who contributed one each.

Klinton Kenney recorded 26 saves for the Blades. Blenheim registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Blades ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Muzzatti was ejected from the game. Joel Sowinski made 27 saves for the Lakers on 32 shots. For Wallaceburg, Pearce was ejected from the game.
