Wheatley outlasts Amherstburg, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wheatley Sharks escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Amherstburg Admirals.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Calyn Kir secured the win for Wheatley with a goal in the third period.

The Sharks were led by Kir, who racked up one goal. Kir scored 14:45 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wheatley. Ryan Zsebok assisted on the tally.

Wheatley kept Amherstburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Arren Romeril made 40 saves on 44 shots. The Sharks was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 13 chances with a man advantage. The defensemen of Wheatley were also effective in the Admirals' zone, and came away with two goals.

Others who scored for Wheatley included Layne Gouin, Dylan Enns, and Frankie Ciacelli, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wheatley came via Scott Florence and Michael Travis, who contributed one each.

Amherstburg racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. The Admirals surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Amherstburg stifled the Sharks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Admirals were helped by Mark Gangnon, who registered one goal. Gangnon scored on the power play 19:44 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amherstburg. Amherstburg had gotten the advantage when Wheatley's Travis was sent off for holding. James Brooks provided the assist. Ryan Alexander also scored for Amherstburg. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Cody Leeming, Jordan Luciw, and Chad Copeland, who each chipped in one.

The Sharks' Adam Leboeuf stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Wheatley incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Sharks, Jimmy Ciacelli was ejected from the game. The Admirals registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Team's Alexander and Dean Patterson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
