Wheatley wins tough contest against Lakeshore, 5-4

The game between the Wheatley Sharks and the Lakeshore Canadiens was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Wheatley emerged with a 5-4 win.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Calyn Kir at 12:12 of the third period.

Scott Florence quarterbacked the Sharks' offense to perfection and bagged four assists in Wheatley's win over Lakeshore.

The Sharks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 21 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays. Wheatley was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances.

Wheatley also got points from Jimmy Ciacelli, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brett Bowman, who also had one goal and one assist. Wheatley also had goals scored by Austin Thompson and Frankie Ciacelli, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Riley Enns, Michael Travis, and Nolan Gardiner, who each chipped in one.

The Canadiens were often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 19.0 minutes per game Lakeshore had been spending in the box. The Canadiens kept the Sharks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Conner MacKinnon made 37 saves on 41 shots. Lakeshore's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Canadiens average 2.4 goals allowed per game.

Lakeshore was helped by Dylan Kolic, who finished with one goal. Kolic scored 16:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakeshore. Sebastian Kanally assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Lakeshore included Nick Tavolieri, Brad Carroll, and Nick Goran, who each put in one. In addition, Lakeshore received assists from Colin Sartor, Liam MacDougall, and Brenden Goran, who contributed one each.

Wheatley ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shawn Hope was ejected from the game. John Jeffries recorded 18 saves for the Canadiens. For Lakeshore, Logan Percy was ejected from the game.
