Wheatley blows out Wallaceburg, 8-2

The Wheatley Sharks were firing on all cylinders against the Wallaceburg Lakers, and when the final buzzer sounded Sharks emerged with an 8-2 win.

Scott Florence quarterbacked Wheatley's offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Sharks' win over Wallaceburg.

The Lakers' power play was ineffective against Wheatley's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:35 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Sharks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Wheatley surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Sharks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Wheatley averages 4.3 goals per game. The Sharks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Wheatley also got a goal from Jimmy Ciacelli as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Shawn Hope, who had one and Mike Reid, Michael Travis, and Frankie Ciacelli, who contributed three each.

Wallaceburg's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Lakers had been spending in the box. Wallaceburg forced Wheatley goalie Adam Leboeuf to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

The Lakers were led by Cory Lucier, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Lucier scored 17:37 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wheatley. Frankie White also scored for Wallaceburg. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Lucais Meyskens, who had one.

Adam Leboeuf made 37 saves for the Sharks on 39 shots. Wheatley registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Team's Layne Gouin, Ryan Zsebok, Lucas Raffoul, and Nolan Gardiner were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Scotty Gray took the loss and made 16 saves before being replaced by Joel Sowinski who made two saves. For Wallaceburg, Jordan Eagan was ejected from the game.
