Amherstburg beats Mooretown 4-3 after comeback scare

The Amherstburg Admirals survived a determined comeback attempt by the Mooretown Flags on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Cody Leeming put Amherstburg up 4-0 in the second period, but Mooretown pulled to within one on Justin Vanbuskirk's tally 19:15 into the third period.

The Admirals kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Johnson made 37 saves on 41 shots.

Amherstburg was helped by Brett Beattie, who finished with one goal. Beattie scored 18:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Amherstburg. Chad Copeland picked up the assist. Amherstburg additionally got points from James Brooks, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Mark Gangnon also scored for Amherstburg. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Mark Sobocan, Marshal Laing, Dan Matoski, Ryan Alexander, Jordan Luciw, and Dean Patterson, who each chipped in one.

Mooretown was helped by #$self.jersey, who registered one goal. #$self.jersey scored 12:32 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Amherstburg. Ethan Dupont provided the assist. Mooretown also got points from Matt Brandon, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Mooretown came via Sam Jasmin, who had one.

The Admirals' Cheech Donato stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Amherstburg incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Flags incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
