Mooretown vanquishes Wallaceburg in shootout, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mooretown Flags defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Mooretown's other shootout goal was scored by Sam Jasmin.

The Flags' penalty kill excelled, as Mooretown gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Flags stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mooretown forced the Lakers goalie Scotty Gray to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Flags' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Mooretown finished with 41 penalty minutes.

The Flags were helped by Jasmin, who tallied one goal. Jasmin scored 14:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. David Addley provided the assist. Caden Fleming also scored for Mooretown. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Matt Brandon, who had one.

Wallaceburg stifled Mooretown's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lakers kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Johnson made 33 saves on 35 shots.

Wallaceburg was helped by Brendan Ritchie, who finished with one goal. Ritchie scored 7:53 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Josh Berkvens assisted on the tally. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Mike Brown as well. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Mike Kindrachuk, who had one.

Mooretown registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. The Flags ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Lyle was ejected from the game. Scotty Gray made 39 saves for the Lakers on 41 shots. Wallaceburg ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Lakers, Evan Weidenbach was ejected from the game.
