Huge game by McNeil boosts Wingham over Mitchell, 10-1Mitchell Arena Sun, Jan 11, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wingham Ironmen's Ryan McNeil had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 10-1 win over the Mitchell Hawks. McNeil scored at 10:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wingham and again while on the power play 15:22 into the third to make the score 8-1 Wingham.Mitchell's 15 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Hawks let up six goals while on the penalty kill. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:56 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Wingham's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. The Ironmen surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. Wingham forced Mitchell's netminders to work between the pipes, firing 43 shots and forcing 33 saves. Graeme Lauersen made 23 stops and Clay Carter made 10. The Ironmen found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Wingham averages 4.8 goals per contest. Wingham additionally got points from Brett Brophy, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Justin Jacklin, who also registered three goals and one assist, Keifer MacInnes, who also had one goal and one assist, and Alex Kuntz, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. Wingham also had goals scored by Josh Higgins and J J Harland, who each put in one. In addition, Wingham received assists from Greg Hansford and Jeremy Ross, who each chipped in one and Holdyn Lansink and Matt McCracken, who contributed two each. The Hawks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and two majors for 76 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Mitchell had been spending in the box. Mitchell also got a goal from Tyler Pauli as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Brett Stacey, who had one. Ben Nelson took the win and made 24 saves before being replaced by Jaden Shrier who made zero saves. For the Ironmen, Darren Kerr was ejected from the game. The Hawks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Mitchell, Matt Van DeWalle and Jordan MacKenzie were ejected from the contest.
