Alex Kuntz gave the Wingham Ironmen a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Walkerton Hawks when he scored 40 seconds into the extra period. Wingham almost relinquished a two-score lead. The Ironmen made the score 2-0 on a power play goal by Kuntz at 17:50 in the second period. Walkerton got to within 2-1 on a goal by Brendan Welsh at 2:41 in the third period. Wingham put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hawks to score on any of their six power plays. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Holdyn Lansink, who had two and Darren Kerr and Ryan McNeil, who contributed one each. Walkerton was held below its usual level of production. The Hawks put an average of 4.9 pucks into the net per game. The Ironmen were unable to stop Walkerton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Walkerton was helped by Austin Russell, who had one goal. Russell scored 18:03 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Lauchlin Elder picked up the assist. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Ryan Hamelin and Tyler Cunningham, who each chipped in one. Ben Nelson recorded 30 saves for Wingham. The Ironmen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Wingham, Josh Higgins was ejected from the game. Erik Angeli rejected 27 shots on goal for the Hawks. Walkerton incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
