Kuntz's big game bests Hanover in 6-3 Wingham winWescast Complex Rink Sun, Jan 25, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Alex Kuntz had one goal and three assists to lead the Wingham Ironmen to a 6-3 victory over the Hanover Barons. Kuntz beat Gord Walmsley with a shot 4:45 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Broedy Karelse picked up the assist. Kuntz dished an assist on Brett Brophy's goal that made the score 3-2 Hanover at 40 seconds into the third period. He then added assists on Brophy's goal at 9:20 into the third and on Keifer MacInnes's goal at 19:31 into the third.Hanover's 10 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Barons let up four goals while on the penalty kill. Hanover was unable to stop Wingham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ironmen eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Wingham also got points from Brophy, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Holdyn Lansink, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wingham also got a goal from Jeremy Ross as well. In addition, Wingham received assists from Darren Kerr, Greg Hansford, Josh Stewart, J J Harland, and Carter Stewart, who each chipped in one. The Barons were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 30 penalty minutes. Hanover was led by Cole Leslie, who registered one goal and one assist. Leslie scored 19:12 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hanover. Lukas Heathers provided the assist. Hanover also had goals scored by Brodie Lemay and Denver Hill, who each put in one. More assists for Hanover came via Justin D Graham and Greg Buchanan, who contributed one each. Ben Nelson made 19 saves for Wingham on 22 shots. The Ironmen incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Walmsley rejected 33 shots on goal for the Barons. Hanover registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
