Shrier stymies Mount Forest, Wingham wins 2-1

The Wingham Ironmen relied on the sparkling performance of Jaden Shrier in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Mount Forest Patriots.

Wingham was sparked by Brett Brophy, who finished with one goal. Brophy scored on the power play 10:48 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wingham. The Ironmen had gotten the advantage when Mount Forest's Brady Becker was sent off for kneeing. Alex Kuntz picked up the assist.

Wingham was held below its usual level of production. The Ironmen put an average of 4.8 pucks into the net per game. Wingham kept the Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Nixon made 44 saves on 46 shots. The Ironmen struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 29 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. Wingham had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

Bailey Poels also scored for Wingham. More assists for Wingham came via Josh Stewart, Ryan McNeil, and Jeremy Ross, who each chipped in one.

Mount Forest did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Patriots average 4.2 goals per game. The Ironmen were unable to stop Mount Forest from sending pucks towards the net, and the Patriots eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Mount Forest could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Patriots were led by Doug Ardis, who scored the team's only goal. Ardis scored on the power play 1:24 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Mount Forest. Doug Costanzo assisted on the tally.

Jaden Shrier made 39 saves for Wingham on 40 shots. For the Ironmen, Holdyn Lansink and McNeil were ejected from the contest.
