Walkerton wins tough contest against Mitchell, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Walkerton Hawks escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Mitchell Hawks.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Alex Perrault at 16:54 of the third period.

Lauchlin Elder had a great game for Walkerton, netting two goals. Elder scored at 18:04 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 18:29 into the third to make the score 5-3 Walkerton.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Walkerton gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Hawks stifled Mitchell's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Walkerton forced the Hawks goalie Clay Carter to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Walkerton additionally got points from Josh Deyell, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Reid Simmons also scored for Walkerton. More assists for Walkerton came via CJ Arthur, Mitch Borden, Ryan Hamelin, Brett Coulson, and Brendan Welsh, who each chipped in one.

Mitchell was helped by Tyler Pauli, who had one goal. Pauli scored 16:54 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Kyle Spence picked up the assist. Others who scored for Mitchell included McKenzie Carter and Bayley Boyes, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Wil Marcy and Jake Finlayson, who contributed one each.

The Hawks' Tristan Lewis stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Walkerton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Carter rejected 31 shots on goal for the Hawks. Mitchell incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
