Richardson's hat trick boosts Mount Forest over Hanover, 6-3Mount Forest Sat, Jan 17, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
A hat trick by Luke Richardson was the highlight in Patriots' 6-3 win against the Hanover Barons. Richardson's first goal came 25 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 2:42 into the first and at 5:18 into the second.The Mount Forest Patriots were often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and one major for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Mount Forest had been spending in the box. The Patriots kept Hanover's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gord Walmsley made 35 saves on 41 shots. Mount Forest got its opportunities on the power play, but did not convert any of its 12 chances. Mount Forest also got points from Doug Costanzo, who also registered one goal and one assist and Trevor Hughson, who also had one goal and one assist. Mount Forest also got a goal from Mitch Betts as well. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Cody Wright, who had two and Tyler McCracken, Kyle Hunter, and Shawn Lantz, who contributed one each. The Barons forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Hanover had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Barons stifled the Patriots' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mount Forest was unable to stop Hanover from sending pucks towards the net, and the Barons eventually piled up 45 shots on goal. Hanover was led by Tyson Soers, who registered one goal and two assists. Soers scored on the power play 18:26 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mount Forest. A slashing penalty on Costanzo had put the Barons on the power play. Brodie Lemay assisted on the tally. Hanover also had goals scored by Mitchell Pike and Jarrett Kuntz, who each put in one. More assists for Hanover came via Justin D Graham, who had two. The Patriots' John Nixon stopped 42 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Team's Hughson and Wright were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Hanover registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Barons, Kyler Jones and Wyatt Carey were ejected from the contest.
