Ardis' hat trick boosts Mount Forest over Hanover, 11-1

A hat trick by Doug Ardis was the highlight in Patriots' 11-1 win against the Hanover Barons.

Ardis' first goal came 3:03 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:50 into the second and at 19:33 into the second.

Hanover was stymied by the Mount Forest Patriots' netminder John Nixon, who stopped 33 shots during the victory. Nixon managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.91 prior to the game.

Mount Forest forced Barons' goaltenders to work all game long, ripping 35 shots and forcing 24 saves. Cody Van der Heide made seven stops and Gord Walmsley made 17. The Patriots excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 10 chances. Mount Forest outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Patriots average 4.4 goals per contest. Mount Forest could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Mount Forest additionally got points from Luke Richardson, who also racked up three goals and three assists to lead the team in points and Trevor Hughson, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Mitch Betts also scored for Mount Forest. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Brendon Aitken, Cody Wright, and Josh Perdue, who contributed one each and Brady Becker and Shawn Lantz, who each chipped in two.

The Barons were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Hanover had been spending in the box. The Barons could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Hanover puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. The Patriots were unable to stop the Barons from sending pucks towards the net, and Hanover eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Barons were led by Brodie Lemay, who scored the team's only goal. Lemay scored 10:51 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Mount Forest. Mitchell Pike provided the assist.

Mount Forest registered five goals on 12 power play opportunities. For Hanover, Jarrett Kuntz was ejected from the game.
