Hanover shrugs off penalties, upends Walkerton, 3-0Walkerton Community Centre Sat, Jan 03, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hanover Barons, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Walkerton Hawks' power play opportunities and emerged with a 3-0 victory. Hanover was sparked by Tyson Soers, who had one goal. Soers scored 18 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hanover. Brodie Lemay picked up the assist. The Barons were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Hanover surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Barons stifled Walkerton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks were unable to stop Hanover from sending pucks towards the net, and the Barons eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Hanover additionally got points from Lemay, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Justin D Graham, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Hanover received assists from Colton Culbert, Tanner Bastien, and Jarrett Kuntz, who contributed one each. Walkerton's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 28.0 minutes per game the Hawks had been spending in the box. Walkerton did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Hawks average 5.3 goals per game. Gord Walmsley recorded 22 saves for Hanover. The Barons registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. For Hanover, Wyatt Carey and Greg Buchanan were ejected from the contest. Tristan Lewis rejected 30 shots on goal for Walkerton. The Hawks registered zero goals on eight power play opportunities. Team's Mitch Borden and Ryan Hamelin were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
