A hat trick by Alex Kuntz was the highlight in Ironmen's 8-2 win against the Mount Forest Patriots. Kuntz got on the scoresheet 4:30 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:00 into the first and at 18:14 into the third.The Wingham Ironmen gained an early advantage, leading 5-0 by the end of the first period. Wingham forced Patriots' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Cole Wardlaw made eight stops and John Nixon made 21. The Ironmen found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Wingham averages 4.5 goals per game. Wingham additionally got points from Darren Kerr, who also registered one goal and two assists, Justin Jacklin, who also had three goals and two assists, and Ryan McNeil, who also racked up one goal and four assists. In addition, Wingham received assists from Matt McCracken, who had two and Brett Brophy, Holdyn Lansink, and Jeremy Ross, who contributed one each. Mount Forest's offense operated below its season average. The Patriots average 4.1 goals per game. Mount Forest was led by Trevor Hughson, who racked up two goals. Hughson scored the first of his two goals at 10:27 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Wingham. Mitch Betts assisted on the tally. Hughson's next tally made the score 7-2 Wingham with 10:57 left in the third period. Doug Ardis picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Devin Williams, who had one. Ben Nelson recorded 27 saves for the Ironmen. Wingham incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Patriots incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
