Walkerton rips Goderich, 4-1Walkerton Community Centre Fri, Jan 02, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Goderich Flyers had trouble finding ways to stop the Walkerton Hawks, which beat Flyers, 4-1. Walkerton was led by goalie Erik Angeli, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. Angeli certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.4 entering the contest. The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Walkerton gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. The Hawks was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. Walkerton could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game. The Hawks were led by John McCrae, who finished with one goal and one assist. McCrae scored on the power play 18:59 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Walkerton. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Brandon Priestap had put Walkerton on the power play. Josh Deyell assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Walkerton included CJ Arthur, who had two and Brendan Welsh and Matt Shields, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Brandon Lamothe, who had one and Jay Thomson, who had three. Goderich's offense rang up 32 shots on the Hawks' net. The Flyers were led by Joseph Dykstra, who scored the team's only goal. Dykstra scored on the power play 3:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Goderich. Goderich earned a power play opportunity when Mitch Borden was put in the box for elbowing. Nick Gowing picked up the assist. The Flyers' Pat Do stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Goderich incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
