Mount Forest rips Mitchell, 8-5

The Mount Forest Patriots had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-5 win over the Mitchell Hawks.

Mount Forest was paced on offense by Luke Richardson and Devin Williams, who combined for six points. Richardson tallied two goals and two assists and Williams also added two goals.

The Patriots forced Hawks' goaltenders to work without much rest, totaling 39 shots and forcing 31 saves. Dan Skinner(AP) made 25 stops and Clay Carter made six. Mount Forest surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Patriots have scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Mount Forest also got points from Doug Ardis, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Mount Forest also got a goal from Trevor Hughson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mount Forest were Dylan Brown(AP), Jake Newton, Tyler McCracken, Kyle Hunter, Bo Uridil, Shawn Lantz, and Todd Greer, who contributed one each.

Mitchell forced Mount Forest goalie John Nixon to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots. The Hawks' goal total was higher than their season average. Mitchell averages 2.6 goals per game.

The Hawks were led by Bayley Boyes, who had two goals and one assist. Boyes scored the first of his two goals at 1:39 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Mitch Boertien(AP) picked up the assist. Boyes' next tally made the score 7-5 Mount Forest with 46 seconds left in the second period. McKenzie Carter provided the assist. Others who scored for Mitchell included Ethan Adair, Scott Fries, and Kyle Spence, who each put in one. In addition, Mitchell received assists from Nathan Tollenaar(AP) and Tyler Pauli, who each chipped in one and Wil Marcy and Matt Van DeWalle, who contributed two each.

John Nixon made 43 saves for the Patriots on 48 shots. Mount Forest incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mitchell incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
