Gillman's big game bests Mount Forest in 6-2 Walkerton winWalkerton Community Centre Sat, Dec 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Chris Gillman was all over the ice for the Walkerton Hawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Walkerton's 6-2 win over the Mount Forest Patriots. Gillman's tallies came on the power play at 15:18 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and 15:57 into the second to make the score 2-1 Walkerton.Mount Forest's power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Patriots were unable to stop Walkerton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Walkerton was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 46 penalty minutes. Walkerton also had goals scored by Josh Deyell, Reid Simmons, Lauchlin Elder, and Spencer Elder(AP), who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Brendan Welsh, who had three and CJ Arthur, John McCrae, Calvin Penney, Brett Coulson, and Tyler Cunningham, who each chipped in one. Mount Forest was held below its usual level of production. The Patriots put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Mount Forest was led by Trevor Hughson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Hughson scored on the power play 13:09 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Walkerton. A slashing penalty on Alec Tiley(AP) had put the Patriots on the power play. Cody Wright picked up the assist. Mount Forest also got a goal from Luke Richardson as well. More assists for Mount Forest came via Kyle Hunter, who had one. Tristan Lewis made 22 saves for the Hawks on 24 shots. Walkerton registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Austin Russell was ejected from the game. Cole Wardlaw recorded 30 saves for Mount Forest. The Patriots incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
