Hanover blows out Mitchell, 7-1

The Hanover Barons were firing on all cylinders against the Mitchell Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Barons emerged with a 7-1 win.

Hanover was led by goalie Cody Van der Heide, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Van der Heide will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.01.

The Barons were paced by Wendel Cameron, who finished with one goal. Cameron scored 10:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hanover. Denver Hill picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:38 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Hanover's offense rang up 42 shots on Mitchell's net. The Barons surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Hanover has scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Hanover additionally got points from Brodie Lemay, who also had two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Lukas Heathers, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Tyson Soers, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Hanover included Justin D Graham and Ben Watson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Hanover came via Colton Culbert and Maxwell Barclay, who each chipped in one and Lucas Johnson and Jarrett Kuntz, who contributed two each.

The Hawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Mitchell surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Barons totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For Hanover, Wyatt Carey was ejected from the game. Dan Skinner(AP) rejected 35 shots on goal for the Hawks. Mitchell registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan MacKenzie was ejected from the game.
