Wingham uses early goal to top Mitchell, 4-2

J J Harland gave the Wingham Ironmen the lead in the first period, and the Mitchell Hawks was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.

A goal 1:42 into the first period by Harland proved to be the game winner, and powered Wingham to the victory. Holdyn Lansink assisted on the tally.

The Ironmen were led by Josh Stewart, who racked up one goal. Stewart scored 18:14 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wingham. Alex Kuntz picked up the assist.

Wingham put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mitchell to score on any of its four power plays. The Ironmen kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Clay Carter made 35 saves on 39 shots.

Others who scored for Wingham included Justin Jacklin and Keifer MacInnes, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Darren Kerr, Brett Brophy, and Jordan Skerrett, who each chipped in one.

Mitchell managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Hawks ended up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

Mitchell was led by Jake Finlayson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Finlayson scored 11:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wingham. Matt Van DeWalle assisted on the tally. Mitchell also got a goal from Joran Mabb(AP) as well. In addition, Mitchell received assists from Wil Marcy and Blake Buchanan(AP), who contributed one each.

Ben Nelson rejected 20 shots on goal for Wingham. The Ironmen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
