Walkerton squeaks by Kincardine, 5-3

The game between the Walkerton Hawks and the Kincardine Bulldogs was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Walkerton emerged with a 5-3 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brett Coulson at 11:05 of the third period.

Carter Franks had two goals to lead the Hawks to victory. Franks' tallies came at 2:38 into the third period to make the score 3-3 and 11:50 into the third to make the score 5-3 Walkerton.

Walkerton's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

Walkerton stifled Kincardine's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Walkerton finished with 28 penalty minutes. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in the Bulldogs' zone, and came away with three goals.

Walkerton also got points from Brendan Welsh, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Walkerton also got a goal from Reid Simmons as well. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Chris Gillman, who had two and John McCrae, Jay Thomson, Alex Perrault, Calvin Penney, Ryan Hamelin, and Lauchlin Elder, who contributed one each.

Kincardine forced Walkerton goalie Tristan Lewis to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Bulldogs' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Hawks' power play unit.

Kincardine was helped by Patrick Wiejak, who tallied one goal. Wiejak scored 1:17 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Kincardine. Brycin Morrison provided the assist. Others who scored for Kincardine included Jordan Van Haelemeesch and Gerrit Satosek, who each put in one. In addition, Kincardine received assists from Jordan Bell, Shawn Moore, Luke Czuczman, and Derrick Bernath, who each chipped in one.

Tristan Lewis made 39 saves for Walkerton on 42 shots. Mitch Campbell recorded 18 saves for the Bulldogs. Kincardine incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
