Hanover survives Walkerton comeback, wins 3-2P and H Centre Sun, Dec 14, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Walkerton Hawks tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Hanover Barons would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2. Hanover took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Walkerton storm back on a Brandon Lamothe goal 19:31 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Barons' penalty kill excelled, as Hanover gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays. The Hawks were unable to stop the Barons from sending pucks towards the net, and Hanover eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Barons were helped by Jarrett Kuntz, who racked up one goal. Kuntz scored on the power play 1:22 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Hanover. A tripping penalty on Austin Russell had put Hanover on the power play. Brodie Lemay assisted on the tally. Hanover also had goals scored by Denver Hill and Ben Watson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Hanover came via Justin D Graham, who had two. Walkerton did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Hawks average 5.6 goals per game. Walkerton forced the Barons goalie Cody Van der Heide to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Walkerton finished with 28 penalty minutes. Walkerton also got a goal from Lauchlin Elder as well. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Carter Franks, who had one. Hanover's Van der Heide stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Barons incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Erik Angeli recorded 34 saves for the Hawks.
