Hanover outlasts Mount Forest, 5-3

The Hanover Barons and the Mount Forest Patriots were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Hanover made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Denver Hill's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Barons were sparked by Jarrett Kuntz, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Kuntz scored 15:30 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Hanover. Tanner Bastien provided the assist.

Hanover put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mount Forest to score on any of its four power plays. The Patriots were unable to stop the Barons from sending pucks towards the net, and Hanover eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Hanover also got points from Bastien, who also had one goal and one assist and Tyson Soers, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Hanover also got a goal from Garrett Weigel as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Brad Pitt, who had one and Justin D Graham, who had two.

Mount Forest excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

The Patriots were led by Mitch Betts, who racked up one goal and one assist. Betts scored 19:46 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Hanover. Trevor Hughson picked up the assist. Mount Forest also had goals scored by Doug Ardis and Luke Richardson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Todd Greer, who had two.

The Barons' Cody Van der Heide stopped 27 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Hanover incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cole Wardlaw made 37 saves for Mount Forest on 41 shots. The Patriots incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
