The Wingham Ironmen's Darren Kerr scored 2:20 into overtime to beat the Mitchell Hawks, 4-3 (OT). Alex Kuntz was all over the ice for Wingham, as he tallied two goals in the win. Kuntz scored on the power play at 4:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wingham and again while 16:54 into the second to make the score 2-2. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the second period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts. The Ironmen were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and three majors for 65 minutes in penalty time. Wingham had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Ironmen kept Mitchell's goalie busy throughout the game, and Clay Carter made 42 saves on 46 shots. The defensemen of Wingham were also effective in the Hawks' zone, and came away with two goals. Wingham also got points from Brett Brophy, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Wingham received assists from Bailey Poels, who had one and Keifer MacInnes, who had two. Mitchell forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and three majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Ironmen were unable to stop Mitchell from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Mitchell was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances. The Hawks were led by Kyle Spence, who racked up one goal and one assist. Spence scored on the power play 4:14 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Mitchell. Mitchell had gotten the advantage when Wingham's Josh Stewart was sent off for spearing.
