The Wingham Ironmen beat the Hanover Barons, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Wingham took over the lead for good with a goal by Alex Kuntz at 15:55 in the first period. Ryan McNeil assisted on the tally.Kuntz had two goals to lead the Ironmen to victory. Wingham's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Hanover power plays. The Ironmen's offense rang up 39 shots on Hanover's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Jordan Skerrett also scored for Wingham. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Holdyn Lansink, who had two and Brett Brophy and Jeremy Ross, who each chipped in one. The Barons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Hanover kept Wingham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Nelson made 38 saves on 40 shots. The Barons were helped by Cole Leslie, who registered one goal. Leslie scored 16:15 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wingham. Garrett Reed picked up the assist. Hanover also got a goal from Justin D Graham as well. In addition, Hanover received assists from Lukas Heathers, Denver Hill, and Trent Bell, who contributed one each. The Ironmen incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Gord Walmsley rejected 35 shots on goal for Hanover. The Barons incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
