Penney's goals lift Walkerton to 6-2 victory over Wingham

Calvin Penney had two goals to lead the Walkerton Hawks to a 6-2 victory over the Wingham Ironmen.

Penney scored at 16:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Walkerton and again while 1:51 into the second to make the score 3-2 Walkerton.

Walkerton's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Walkerton could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Walkerton additionally got points from Jay Thomson, who also had one goal and one assist and Lauchlin Elder, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Walkerton included Nathan Kramer and Justin McCrae(AP), who scored one goal each. In addition, Walkerton received assists from Spencer Elder(AP), Josh Deyell, Chris Gillman, Ryan Hamelin, and Austin Russell, who each chipped in one.

Wingham did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Ironmen put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Hawks were unable to stop Wingham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ironmen eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Wingham could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Ironmen were helped by Josh Stewart, who finished with one goal. Stewart scored 4:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wingham. Travis Bender assisted on the tally. Wingham also got a goal from Matt McCracken as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wingham were Justin Jacklin, who had one.

Erik Angeli recorded 38 saves for Walkerton. The Hawks registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Wingham's Ben Nelson stopped 18 shots out of the 24 that he faced.
