Skerrett leads Wingham over Kincardine, 6-2

The Wingham Ironmen were firing on all cylinders against the Kincardine Bulldogs, and when the final buzzer sounded Ironmen emerged with a 6-2 win.

Wingham got the win behind a great game by Jordan Skerrett, who had two goals and one assist. Skerrett scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:32 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Wingham. The Ironmen had taken the advantage when Kincardine's Chad Simpson got sent off for slashing. Alex Kuntz assisted on the tally. Skerrett's next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Wingham with 9:31 left in the third period. Wingham earned a power play opportunity when Simpson was put in the box for unsportsmanlike conduct. Jordie Schneider provided the assist.

The Bulldogs' power play was ineffective against the Ironmen's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Wingham capitalized on Kincardine's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. The Ironmen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Wingham's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Wingham additionally got points from Justin Jacklin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Kuntz, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Ryan McNeil, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Wingham also got a goal from Brody Tenpas as well. In addition, Wingham received assists from Connor Weishar, Brett Brophy, Holdyn Lansink, Jared Weishar, and Carter Stewart, who each chipped in one.

The Bulldogs were helped by Mike Smailes, who had one goal. Smailes scored on the power play 3:28 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wingham. Kincardine had gotten the advantage when the Ironmen's Greg Scott was sent off for tripping. Sam Feagan picked up the assist. Jordan Bell also scored for Kincardine. More assists for Kincardine came via Jordan Van Haelemeesch and Luke Czuczman, who contributed one each.

Ben Nelson recorded 28 saves for Wingham. The Bulldogs' Mitch Campbell stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Kincardine incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
