Hanover holds on for 5-4 win against WinghamMildmay RC Sat, Oct 25, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wingham Ironmen tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Hanover Barons held on for a 5-4 victory. A goal by Denver Hill put Hanover up 4-1 in the third period, but Wingham pulled to within one on Ryan McNeil's tally 9:11 into the third period. The Barons pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes. Hanover forced the Ironmen goalie Mike Ratchford to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The Barons were helped by Colton Culbert, who finished with one goal. Culbert scored on the power play 10:15 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Hanover. Hanover had gotten the advantage when Wingham's Alex Kuntz was sent off for spearing. Brodie Lemay provided the assist. Hanover additionally got points from Hill, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Hanover included Ben Watson, Tyson Soers, and Wendel Cameron, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Kyler Jones, Justin D Graham, Lukas Heathers, Lucas Johnson, Brad Pitt, and Jarrett Kuntz, who contributed one each. The Ironmen kept the Barons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cody Van der Heide made 30 saves on 34 shots. Wingham was led by Jordan Skerrett, who racked up one goal and two assists. Skerrett scored on the power play 7:52 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Hanover. Brett Brophy picked up the assist. Wingham also got points from Justin Jacklin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Holdyn Lansink also scored for Wingham. In addition, Wingham received assists from Connor Weishar, who had one. Hanover registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Ratchford recorded 29 saves for the Ironmen. Wingham incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
