Wingham penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of Mount Forest

The Mount Forest Patriots failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Wingham Ironmen shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Wingham's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Mount Forest power plays. The Ironmen kept Mount Forest's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cole Wardlaw made 29 saves on 34 shots.

Wingham was helped by Cody Lang, who had one goal. Lang scored short handed 14:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wingham. The Ironmen were on a disadvantage when Travis Bender went off the ice for interference. Jeremy Ross picked up the assist. Wingham additionally got points from Holdyn Lansink, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Wingham also had goals scored by Josh Stewart, Alex Kuntz, and Ryan McNeil, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wingham came via Brett Brophy, who had one.

The Patriots' offense operated below their season average. Mount Forest puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.

The Patriots were led by Mitch Betts, who registered two goals. Betts scored the first of his two goals at 12:03 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Wingham. Doug Ardis assisted on the tally. Betts' next tally made the score 5-2 Wingham with 1:48 left in the third period. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Dylan Brown(AP), who had one.

Wingham's Ben Nelson stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Ironmen incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Wingham, Jordie Schneider was ejected from the game. Mount Forest incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
