Walkerton survives Mount Forest comeback, wins 4-3Mount Forest Sat, Oct 18, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Walkerton Hawks, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Mount Forest Patriots and clinched a 4-3 victory. Walkerton led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hawks' Ryan Hamelin scored on the power play at 17:19 in the first period to put Walkerton up 3-0. The Hawks were paced by Lauchlin Elder, who had one goal and one assist. Elder scored on the power play 13:18 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Walkerton. A roughing penalty on Cody Wright had put Walkerton on the power play. Hamelin picked up the assist. The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Mount Forest was unable to stop Walkerton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. Walkerton additionally got points from Alex Perrault, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Hamelin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Walkerton also got a goal from CJ Arthur as well. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Brett Coulson, who had two and Josh Deyell, Jay Thomson, and Calvin Penney, who each chipped in one. The Patriots' offense rang up 49 shots on Walkerton's net. Mount Forest's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to the Hawks' power play unit. The Patriots were helped by Mitch Betts, who registered one goal. Betts scored 7:38 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Walkerton. Doug Costanzo provided the assist. Mount Forest also had goals scored by Doug Ardis and Trevor Hughson, who each put in one. In addition, Mount Forest received assists from Luke Richardson, who had two and Tyler McCracken and Shawn Lantz, who contributed one each. Erik Angeli recorded 46 saves for Walkerton. The Hawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mount Forest's Cole Wardlaw stopped 46 shots out of the 50 that he faced. The Patriots incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
