Matt Van DeWalle had two goals and two assists to lead the Mitchell Hawks to a 5-3 victory over the Goderich Flyers. Van DeWalle's tallies came at 3:27 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Mitchell and short handed 13:30 into the second to make the score 4-3 Mitchell.Mitchell kept Goderich's goalie busy throughout the game, and Nathan Watson made 36 saves on 41 shots. The Hawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Mitchell averages 2.8 goals per contest. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in the Flyers' zone, and came away with two goals. Mitchell additionally got points from Josh Den Otter, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Joe McCarthy also scored for Mitchell. More assists for Mitchell came via Nathan Tollenaar(AP), who had one and Greg Orr and Scott Munro, who each chipped in two. Goderich managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Flyers finished below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Mitchell was unable to stop Goderich from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Goderich was helped by Liam Melady, who grabbed one goal. Melady scored on the power play 6:12 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Flyers had taken the advantage when the Hawks' Zach Goodhew got sent off for tripping. Eric McPhee provided the assist. Others who scored for Goderich included Adam Cousins and Jordan Pepper, who scored one goal each. In addition, Goderich received assists from Jesse McIntyre and Marcel Fohkens, who contributed one each. Keaton Weiss rejected 34 shots on goal for Mitchell. The Hawks totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Team's Wil Marcy and Scott Fries were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Goderich registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
