Walkerton rides Angeli to victory over Mitchell, 5-1

Erik Angeli stood on his head and made 29 saves to lead the Walkerton Hawks to a 5-1 victory over the Mitchell Hawks.

Mitchell's power play was ineffective against Walkerton's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Hawks were sparked by Austin Russell, who registered one goal. Russell scored 7:43 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Walkerton. Brett Coulson picked up the assist.

Walkerton found itself short handed often, totaling 34 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Others who scored for Walkerton included Calvin Penney, who had two and Chris Gillman and Lauchlin Elder, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Matt Shields, who had two and Nathan Kramer, Jay Thomson, Ryan Hamelin, and Tyler Cunningham, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Mitchell ended up below its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Hawks were led by Bayley Boyes, who scored the team's only goal. Boyes scored on the power play 16:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mitchell had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Mitch Borden was sent off for hooking. Kyle Spence provided the assist.

Walkerton registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Keaton Weiss made 18 saves for the Hawks on 23 shots.
