Mitchell rides Carter to victory over Wingham, 5-1Wescast Complex Rink Fri, Oct 03, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mitchell Hawks relied on the sparkling performance of Clay Carter in net to grab a 5-1 win against the Wingham Ironmen. Bayley Boyes was all over the ice for Mitchell, as he racked up two goals in the win. Boyes' tallies came at 14:34 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mitchell and on the power play 9:21 into the third to make the score 4-1 Mitchell. The Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes. Mitchell stifled Wingham's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Mitchell has scored at the pace of 2.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The Hawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Mitchell additionally got points from Matt Van DeWalle, who also had two goals and one assist. Jerry Ennet also scored for Mitchell. Other players who recorded assists for Mitchell were Tyler Pauli, who had two and Greg Orr, Scott Munro, Kyle Spence, and Jake Finlayson, who each chipped in one. The Ironmen's offense operated below their season average. Wingham puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Ironmen were led by Justin Jacklin, who scored the team's only goal. Jacklin scored 55 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Mitchell. Alex Kuntz provided the assist. Clay Carter made 29 saves for Mitchell on 30 shots. The Hawks registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Mike Ratchford rejected 13 shots on goal for Wingham. The Ironmen incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
