Hanover shrugs off penalties, upends Mitchell, 5-2Western Jr. C Sat, Sep 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mitchell Hawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Hanover Barons shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2. Hanover's offense rang up 44 shots on Mitchell's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Barons were helped by Ryne Weppler, who tallied one goal. Weppler scored 8:02 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Hanover. Wyatt Carey provided the assist. Hanover also got points from Colton Culbert, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Denver Hill, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Hanover included Brodie Lemay and Lucas Johnson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Hanover came via Tyson Soers, Brad Pitt, Wendel Cameron, and Jarrett Kuntz, who each chipped in one. The Hawks stifled Hanover's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cody Van der Heide rejected 21 shots on goal for the Barons. Hanover incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Clay Carter recorded 39 saves for Mitchell. The Hawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Mitchell, Matt Van DeWalle was ejected from the game.
