Culbert leads Hanover over Goderich, 6-2P and H Centre Fri, Sep 19, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hanover Barons' Colton Culbert had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Goderich Flyers. Culbert got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 8:49 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Hanover. A tripping penalty on Brad MacIntyre had put Hanover on the power play. Cole Leslie assisted on the tally. Culbert dished an assist on Devin Perdue(AP)'s goal that made the score 4-2 Hanover at 12:31 into the second period. He added another helper on Justin D Graham's goal that made the score 6-2 Hanover at 5:07 into the third period.Goderich's power play was ineffective against the Barons' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:50 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Hanover was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Barons had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Hanover put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their eight power plays. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Hanover also got points from Graham, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Hanover also had goals scored by Lukas Heathers, Wyatt Carey, and Tyson Soers, who scored one goal each. More assists for Hanover came via Garrett Weigel, Brodie Lemay, Wendel Cameron, and Garrett Reed, who each chipped in one. Goderich's offense was handcuffed by the Barons' defensive play, and the Flyers managed only 12 shots on goal during the game. Goderich was helped by Liam Melady, who registered one goal. Melady scored 19:08 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Marcel Fohkens provided the assist. Goderich also got a goal from Trent Michie (AP) as well. In addition, Goderich received assists from Darby Tyhdall and Joseph Dykstra, who contributed one each. Cody Van der Heide made 10 saves for Hanover on 12 shots. The Barons registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Hanover ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Carey was ejected from the game. Pat Do recorded 23 saves for the Flyers. Goderich ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Flyers, Jesse McIntyre was ejected from the game.
