Walkerton survives penalties, beats Hanover, 5-2

The Walkerton Hawks' penalty kill was superb, as Walkerton survived multiple penalties to beat the Hanover Barons, 5-2.

The Hawks were sparked by Brett Coulson, who finished with one goal. Coulson scored 9:05 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Walkerton. Lauchlin Elder picked up the assist.

Walkerton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 11 Hanover power plays.

Walkerton additionally got points from Calvin Penney, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Elder, who also registered one goal and one assist. Walkerton also had goals scored by Nathan Kramer and Chris Gillman, who scored one goal each. More assists for Walkerton came via Mitch Borden, John McCrae, Jay Thomson, and Austin Russell, who contributed one each.

The Hawks were unable to stop Hanover from sending pucks towards the net, and the Barons eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Hanover was helped by Cole Leslie, who grabbed one goal. Leslie scored 14:38 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hanover. Justin D Graham assisted on the tally. Hanover also got points from Graham, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Hanover were Denver Hill, who had one.

Tristan Lewis made 35 saves for Walkerton on 37 shots. The Hawks incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Walkerton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Lamothe was ejected from the game. The Barons' Cody Van der Heide stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Hanover incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
