Keire, Ayr blank New Hamburg, 3-0

Andre Keire was superb between the pipes for the Ayr Centennials, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the New Hamburg Firebirds.

Ayr's penalty kill excelled, as the Centennials gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Ayr was led by Tyler Mellish, who racked up one goal. Mellish scored 4:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Jordan Pettitt picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:42 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Centennials racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Ayr surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The Centennials forced New Hamburg's goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 36 shots and forcing 33 saves. Ryan Purcell made 29 stops and Tanner Topham made four. Ayr stifled the Firebirds' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Centennials did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Ayr puts an average of 5.8 pucks into the net per game. The Centennials featured an improved defense during the game. Ayr averages 2.3 goals allowed per game.

Ayr also got points from Anthony Pullia, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Brendan Schaefer also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Quinn Diamond, who had two and Connor MacLean and Carver Ormiston, who each chipped in one.

New Hamburg's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 80 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game the Firebirds had been spending in the box. New Hamburg could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Firebirds average 4.4 goals per game. New Hamburg's penalty kill managed to stymie the Centennials' power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down.

Andre Keire made 26 saves for Ayr on 26 shots. For the Centennials, Sean Mitchell and Felix Lantaigne were ejected from the contest. Team's Andrew Boer, Purcell, and Carter Tracey were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
