GAME RECAP

Paris rides McLean to victory over Woodstock, 4-1

Woodstock Community Center    Fri, Jan 23, 2015

The Paris Mounties relied on the sparkling performance of Davis McLean in net to grab a 4-1 win against the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Woodstock's power play was ineffective against Paris' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Mounties were paced by Brady Wheelans, who finished with one goal. Wheelans scored 6:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Paris. Brodie Smith provided the assist.

Paris found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Paris also had goals scored by Clayton Chalmers, Ryan Stephenson, and Tyler Arsenault, who scored one goal each. More assists for Paris came via Mitchell Harvey, who had two and Austin Sine and Jacob Norcott, who each chipped in one.

The Navy Vets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Paris power plays. Woodstock was held below its usual level of production. The Navy Vets average 3.5 goals per game. Woodstock kept the Mounties' goalie busy throughout the game, and McLean made 41 saves on 42 shots.

The Navy Vets were led by Mike Gillespie, who scored the team's only goal. Gillespie scored on the power play 9:10 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Paris. Woodstock had gotten the advantage when Paris' Garrett Kirby was sent off for roughing. Dylan Wettlaufer picked up the assist.

The Mounties ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Merrit Crumback was ejected from the game. Michael Roefs took the loss and made eight saves before being replaced by Jackson Swindells who made 14 saves. The Navy Vets incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
