Early goals doom Delhi, falls to New Hamburg, 8-0Wilmot Recreation Complex Fri, Jan 23, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
A four-goal first period deficit cost the Delhi Travellers, which could not recover and fell to the New Hamburg Firebirds, 8-0. Quinten Haddock was all over the ice for New Hamburg, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Haddock scored the first of his two goals at 12:11 into the first period to make the score 4-0 New Hamburg. Tyler Hoffman picked up the assist. Haddock's next tally made the score 7-0 New Hamburg with 2:15 left in the second period. Chris Eckert provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:05 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Firebirds forced Travellers' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 62 shots and forcing 54 saves. Mike Harrison made 33 stops and Patrick Tanner made 21. New Hamburg stifled Delhi's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Firebirds' defensive effort looked to be improved. New Hamburg averages 2.6 goals allowed per game. The Firebirds bested their season scoring average. New Hamburg has scored at the pace of 4.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Tyler Randerson and Anthony Osterling, who each put in two and Kory Nowak and Carter Tracey, who scored one goal each. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Jerry Ennett, who had two and Ben Playfair, Matt Bedforth, and Andrew Boer, who each chipped in one. Ryan Purcell made 19 saves for the Firebirds on 19 shots. New Hamburg totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Team's Colin Martin and Garrett Pollock were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Travellers totaled 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-3 on the power play. For Delhi, Steve Barati and Brendan Schreider were ejected from the contest.
