Ayr uses big second period to beat Wellesley, 9-1

The Ayr Centennials used a six-goal second period to put away the Wellesley Applejacks, 9-1.

Ayr's penalty kill excelled, as the Centennials gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Ayr was led by Anthony Pullia, who racked up one goal and one assist. Pullia scored 49 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ayr. Quinn Diamond picked up the assist.

The Centennials forced Wellesley's goalies to work all game long, launching 42 shots and forcing 33 saves. Keaton Weiss made 17 stops and Jesse Bender made 16. Ayr stifled the Applejacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Centennials bested their season scoring average. Ayr averages 5.9 goals per game.

Ayr additionally got points from Diamond, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Andrew Richard, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Brendan Schaefer, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ayr included Jeff Howlett, who had three and Riley Clipper and Jordan Pettitt, who scored one goal each. More assists for Ayr came via Jake Whibbs, who had two and Mackenzie Kemp, Connor MacLean, Logan Beechey, Sean Mitchell, Colin Schuringa, and Andre Keire, who contributed one each.

Wellesley also got a goal from Taylor Doering as well.

Keire recorded 17 saves for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Wellesley incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
