Ayr holds on for 6-4 win against Tavistock

The Tavistock Braves tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Ayr Centennials held on for a 6-4 victory.

A goal by Jordan Pettitt put Ayr up 6-3 in the third period, but Tavistock pulled to within two on Derek Cowing's tally 14:07 into the third period.

Eric Hackborn had two goals to lead the Centennials to victory. Hackborn scored at 1:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr and again while 19:44 into the first to make the score 3-2 Ayr.

Ayr forced the Braves goalie Ben Larder to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. The Centennials got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Ayr could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

Ayr additionally got points from Pettitt, who also had one goal and one assist and Andrew Richard, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ayr included Riley Clipper and Felix Lantaigne, who each put in one. In addition, Ayr received assists from Jeff Howlett, who had two and Jake Whibbs, Quinn Diamond, Austin Kovrig, Carver Ormiston, and Brendan Schaefer, who contributed one each.

Tavistock's offense rang up 32 shots on the Centennials' net. The Braves struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 28 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. Tavistock had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances.

The Braves were led by Jordan Ritsma, who finished with one goal and two assists. Ritsma scored 19:00 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Cody Bateman assisted on the tally. Tavistock also got points from Bateman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Matthew Lupton also scored for Tavistock. More assists for Tavistock came via Jason Miller, who had one and Drew Wagler, who had two.

Will Rawski rejected 28 shots on goal for Ayr. Ben Larder made 29 saves for Tavistock on 35 shots.
